Jo Knits!: Comment on Lee Ann's questions

Jo Knits!: Comment on Lee Ann's questions

Fair isle knitting frightened me until I got the courage to try it. I knitted a beautiful 3 color sweater. It was more tedious than straight knitting but the result was worth the effort.

Free Crochet Instructions

Free Crochet Instructions: "Crocheting:
Other forms of handwork knitting, embroidery and weaving can be dated far back in time, thanks to archeological finds, written sources and pictorial representations of various kinds. But no one is quite sure when and where crochet got its start. The word comes from croc, or croche, the Middle French word for hook, and the Old Norse word for hook is krokr. "

Great looking sweater. The zipper really makes a hand knit sweater look like a machine made sweater. The yarn looks great.

Diamond: "Diamond Yarn Balls: Roll the Skein into a ball before using to keep tangles out of yarn. This will put Stress on the yarn and could take the bounce out of the yarn if left too long in a yarn ball.
Diamond Cones for Yarn: Weavers and Machine knitters love these. They are a great way to get a lot of yardage in one space. "

Good advice to advoid the yarn from tangling. It is a nuisance to be knitting and have to untangle the yarn.

Crochet Magazine

Crochet Magazine: "Crochet began turning up in Europe in the early 1800s and was given a tremendous boost by Mlle. Riego de la Branchardiere, who was best known for her ability to take old-style needle and bobbin lace designs and turn them into crochet patterns that could easily be duplicated. She published many pattern books so that millions of women could begin to copy her designs. Mlle. Riego also claimed to have invented 'lace-like' crochet, today called Irish crochet. "

Great toy crochet pattern is available here. It seems like it would be an interesting crochet pattern.

Crochet Flower

Crochet Flower: "Crocheting:
According to American crochet expert and world traveler Annie Potter, 'The modern art of true crochet as we know it today was developed during the 16th century. It became known as 'crochet lace' in France and 'chain lace' in England.' And, she tells us, in 1916 Walter Edmund Roth visited descendants of the Guiana Indians and found examples of true crochet. "

I love the flower applique that is here. It seems like a good price and I can picture it on a jacket I crocheted.

54 degrees- ha, it snowed here last night. I guess I will knit one more felted hat! Maybe then I can start using spring type yarns. I am tired of wools and mohairs and dark yarn colors. I can't wait to use light yarns and pastel colors!

So much fiber, so little time: A new fiber word

So much fiber, so little time: A new fiber word: "I can tell 100% merino from 80% merino/20% cashmere by the faint whiff of goat, and linen smells different from hemp from cotton from silk, etc. And weird as it may sound, if you roll a fiber between your fingers up against your ear, you can hear a difference between mammals and bugs and plants, oh my!"

Debbie Bliss

Debbie Bliss: "Debbie Bliss Yarn Skeins: Best for storage. Allows yarn to be relaxed until ready to use. Can be used with a Yarn Swift.
Pull Skeins: Some column_1~ Yarn manufactures will Skein their yarns in ready to use center pull skeins. Look at the yarn label to confirm. "

Debbie Bliss yarn is always yummy to work with. I like the discount prices that I find on this site. It is an expensive yarn, but worth getting, especially when it is discounted.
